Romanian Cabinet Survives Latest No-confidence Vote

The Romanian Parliament rejected the no-confidence vote against the center-right cabinet over the new Labor Code.

The Labor Code triggered strong criticism of the trade unions and the opposition, which submitted the vote. They accuse the cabinet of violating the rights and the interests of both the employees and the employers.

212 Members of the Parliament voted for no-confidence for the government and 4 were against with 236 needed for it to pass. Most of the MPs from the ruling coalition were in plenary hall but abstained.

The no-confidence vote had the motto "Low Salaries, High Unemployment Rate, Bankrupting Business."

Earlier, Prime Minister, Emil Boc, appealed for the vote to be rejected one the grounds Romania is in dire need of reforms of its labor market in order to make up for being behind the other EU Member States.
