Bulgaria, China Local Authorities Seal Cooperation Agreement

The National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB) and the China International Friendship Cities Association (CIFCA) have signed a Framework Memorandum of Cooperation in China.

The parties have agreed to establish "a general framework within which to cooperate on issues of common interest, by promoting the collaboration of Bulgarian and Chinese Local Governments," the memorandum said, as cited by the People's Daily Online.

Its objective was to contribute to the exchange and cooperation between municipalities "in the economic, scientific and technological, cultural and other fields with a view to advancing social prosperity and progress and safeguarding world peace," the memorandum added.

The two associations also agreed to make available their own knowledge, technology and expertise in the process of promoting cooperation of local institutions and the creation of friendship- city relations.

By the end of 2010, China has twinned 1 743 pairs of friendship cities with 127 countries, including seven with Bulgaria.

CIFCA has more than 300 member cities across China, while all 264 Bulgarian municipalities are members of NAMRB, the People's Daily Online explains.
