The Bulgarian MPs who missed the opportunity to acquire some English knowledge in school are now free to fill the gap in their education– during their working hours.

English language courses for the Bulgarian MPs eager for some new knowledge are available since Monday, it has been made clear by the National Assembly.

Unsurprisingly, the beginners form the largest group among those who enrolled for the courses - 46 "pupils". Most Bulgarian MPs have received their education during the communist regime in the country, when education in English was not so widespread as it is now.

The MPs will have the chance to combine the delight of learning with working less, as the courses will be carried out during plenary sessions and commission sittings. The courses will take place until the end of 2011, but the MPs will also enjoy a 2-month summer break. However, they still have to buy the necessary textbooks with their own money.

Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said in a 2010 interview that he regrets never having learned English even though he really did not feel the need to speak it, as, in his own words, whenever he heard "сongratulation, Borisov", he just stopped listening.

Meanwhile, the studious Bulgarian MPs, their colleagues and all National Assembly employees have received generous 25-40% discounts on luxurious sunglasses, including Chanel, Tiffany, Bvlgari, Dolce&Gabana, Versace, Ray Ban and Vogue, the BGNES news agency has reported, again citing an official statement from the institution.
