Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov has commended the efforts of Iraq's government to stabilize the country politically and economically.

Mladenov met with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in Baghdad on Monday.

The Iraqi government has expressed a desire to buy electricity from Bulgaria and to restore the cooperation that Bulgaria and Iraq used to have in agriculture and irrigation.

Nikolay Mladenov has responded that he will facilitate a visit to Iraq by Bulgarian Economy Minister Traicho Traikov and Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov.

Iraq's Deputy PM Hussein Shahristani has declared that Iraq is ready to send a delegation to Bulgaria right away with respect to energy and agriculture cooperation.

Mladenov said he hoped Bulgaria can open an embassy in Baghdad as soon as possible, and that he was highly optimistic about Bulgaria's relation with Iraq.
