The Foreign Affairs Ministers of countries united in the Arab League have now formally voted in support of a creation of a no-fly zone over violence-torn Libya.

At their extraordinary meeting in Cairo Saturday, they have reportedly also decided to establish relations with the rebels from the National Council in Benghazi, say diplomatic sources from the League.

The no-fly zone was supported by all Foreign Affairs Ministers, excluding those of Algeria and Syria.

The decision adopted by the League is to propose to the UN that it vote for the enforcement of a no-fly zone over Libya, in accordance with its powers.

Meanwhile US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has nevertheless stated he is somewhat skeptical as to the "wisdom" of imposing a no-fly zone over Libya.

The Arab League decision to establish formal relations with the Libyan National Council is motivated as a move that would "help the Libyan" people.

Previously, the League had suspended Libya's membership.
