Forces loyal to Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi, have launched new air strikes on the rebel stronghold - the oil port of Ras Lanuf.

Military aircraft dropped missiles near rebel positions in the desert east of Ras Lanuf, according to witnesses, cited by BBC Tuesday.

There are no immediate reports of casualties.

Rebels fighting to oust Gaddafi after 41 years as the country's leader took over Ras Lanuf on Friday.

A rebel spokesman has informed that a Gaddafi representative had offered to hold talks on the leader's possible withdrawal, but it was rejected by his adversaries.

Meanwhile, EU and NATO are increasing efforts to put in place a no-fly zone over Libya.

Britain and France are drafting a UN resolution, which is to be debated by NATO defense ministers on Thursday.
