Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov has stated he did not want to be the head of state of a peripheral country.

"I want Bulgaria to has the confidence that it is correctly and accurately following the requirements in European reports. I do not want to be a leader of a country that is in the periphery," Parvanov said at a meeting with Bulgarian expats in Vienna.

The president presented his idea for Bulgaria, as it was formulated in the San Stefano Treaty.

"For decades we have tried to achieve the borders, envisioned in the San Stefano Treaty, in the formal sense. The truth is that our spiritual community is much more important," he said.

On the occasion of his talks in Austria on the topic of the Danube Strategy, Parvanov said that he insisted that Bulgaria "participates actively in defending our positions and the positions of the region."

The Bulgarian head of state expressed content that there are many organizations of Bulgarians living in Austria.

"I hope this is not a result of the notorious split of Bulgarians. I hope our organizations here are a network of interacting people who use different methods of work among the community," Parvanov said.

The president noted that during his first day of his visit in Austria, he discussed the joint energy projects, like South Stream and Nabucco gas pipelines.

In his words, these projects are important for Europe and they guarantee its energy security, but they are also important for Bulgaria because they bring economic benefits to the country.
