The family of Bulgaria's Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov was faced with an unpleasant incident after thieves stole a family car with Rashidov's granddaughter trapped inside.

The incident occurred Monday morning as Rashidov's son Vadim Rashidov was dropping off one of his kids at school leaving his other child, a 9-year-old girl studying in another school, inside the car before the school building.

As he was returning to his car, Vadim Rashidov saw the vehicle start off with his kid inside. Minutes later the car pulled over, the thieves opened the door and let the kid go, and then disappeared with the vehicle.

An hour later the car, a S-class Mercedes, was found abandoned in the Bokar Quarter. The police continue to search for car thieves.

Vadim Rashidov is a graduate of the Sofia Arts Academy, and has several independent exhibits but according to the Standart Daily he has been working as a construction entrepreneur in the recent years.

Minister Vezhdi Rashidov, a famous Bulgarian sculptor, was in a morning live TV program when the incident happened, and was informed about it by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov. He thanked the police for their efforts and professionalism. Meanwhile, Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov commented that fighting car theft is one of the priorities of the police.
