Some 200 EU passport-holders,including Bulgarians, are still stranded in Libya and willing to escape from it, the EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Kristalina Georgieva said Monday.

Georgieva held a public lecture at the Sofia University dedicated to the worsening situation in Libya .She said a growing number of Libyans are fleeing the country. However, EU is prepared to receive the refugee wave which may be triggered by the worst case scenario – a civil war in Libya, she stated.

All 25 member states, who have implemented the directive covering the saubject, must share the responsibility of coping with the refugee situation, the EU Commissioner pointed out. Denmark and the UK have not implemented the directive.

Georgieva has discussed with Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov the possible preparedness of the country to secure new humanitarian aid and refugee transportation flights to Libya.

"If necessary, and we are sure it will become necessary, my appeal is for additional flights and preparedness for collaboration,' the Commissioner said.

A Bulgarian plane already executed two flights to transport refugees from Tunisia to Egypt Bulgaria sent the plane to help transport people fleeing into Tunisia from violence-flooded Libya. With the two trips Sunday, the 140-capacity Airbus has flown some 300 refugees.
