Unlike its neighbors, Bosnia and Herzegovina is lagging behind in its EU integration, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov warned in Sarajevo on Monday.

"We have paved the road of reforms that Bosnia and Herzegovina should take. That is why we are here today as neighbors and friends who want to help Bosnia and the entire region become integrated in the EU," Mladenov declared during his visit in the Bosnian capital where he was together with his Slovenian counterpart Samuel Zbogar.

Mladenov and Zbogar warned the Bosnian presidency made up of representatives of the three ethnicities in the country – Serbs, Croats, and Bosnian Muslims – that Croatia, Montenegro, and Serbia are registering progress in their path to EU accession, while Bosnia is unable to catch up.

The Bulgarian top diplomat went even further by pointing out that the priorities of the EU are changing, and that the Balkans will no longer be in the center of EU's attention, аs cited by the press office of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.

According to Mladenov, the Bosnian politicians should achieve progress in three areas: uniting the Bosnian society; forming a government; and uniting around a common vision.

"The unity of the country around a common European platform will be a strong signal towards the region and towards the pro-European citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina," Mladenov said in Sarajevo.
