Bulgaria Sends Plane on Humanitarian Mission to Libya

Bulgaria is sending a plane on a humanitarian mission to Libya, Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, announced during his official visit to Spain.

According to Borisov, Foreign Affairs Minister, Nikolay Mladenov, told him the plane is fully prepared for departure to transport people over the worsening situation and the escalating tensions in Libya.

The PM informed earlier the government's Airbus has been sent to assist Bulgarian EU Commissioner on International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Kristalina Georgieva, who was in the region (Tunisia and Libya) to inspect the conditions in person. The Airbus is to be used to deliver food and basic staples.

After the conclusion of her mission, Georgieva said she is becoming more and more alarmed about the situation on the Libyan-Tunisian border and asked the Libyan authorities to allow humanitarian workers to enter the country.
