Govt Plane Evacuates 41 Bulgarians from Libya

Bulgaria's government Airbus 310 evacuated 41 more Bulgarian citizens from Libya on Monday, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has announced.

The airplane departed from the airport in Tripoli at 3:30 pm with 50 people on board, including 41 Bulgarians and 9 people from Finland, Greece, Canada and Trinidad and Tobago. The plane arrived to Sofia around 6:30 pm.

Meanwhile, the 22 Bulgarians that were evacuated from Libya with the Turkish Iskenderum ship to the port of Marmaris are traveling by bus to Istanbul, where they will catch a plane to Sofia, said the Consul General of Bulgaria in Istanbul, Evgeni Genev.

Iskrenderum arrived to Marmaris around midnight on Monday after a 30-hour trip from the port in the Libyan city of Benghazi. A total of 1518 people arrived with the Turkish ship, 427 of which were foreigners. The Bulgarian nationals have been accommodated in hotels and have been given documents, if needed.

Last week, 111 Bulgarians returned from Libya with Bulgarian planes and 24 others were evacuated with Romanian and Ukrainian planes.

A total of 100 000 foreigners have left Libya so far, according to Bulgaria's EU Commissioner on Humanitarian Aid, Kristalina Georgieva.
