Libyan Rebels Shoot Down Military Aircraft Near Misrata

Rebels opposing Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafihave shot down on Monday a military aircraft deployed near the town of Misrata to eliminate them.

The rebels have captured the aircraft's crew, witnesses have claimed. They have reportedly repelled an attack by pro-government forces near the town, which is about 200 km (120 miles) east of the capital Tripoli, Sky News has said.

Also on Monday, rebels holding Zawiyah, only 50 km (30 miles) west of Tripoli, have said about 2,000 troops loyal to Gaddafi had surrounded the city, the Jerusalem post reports.
