'The King's Speech' Triumphs at Oscars

"The King's Speech", a historical drama about the British King George VI and his vocal coach, won best picture at the 83rd Academy Awards ceremony late on Sunday.

The British period drama too three more prestigious trophies from the glamorous ceremony, as Colin Firth was coronated as best actor, while Tom Hooper was proclaimed  best director, while David Seidler won for his original screenplay.

"The Social Network," the story about the founding of Facebook, took three awards, including adapted screenplay. Pregnant Natalie Portman picked up the year's best actress statuette for her turn as a deranged ballerina in Darren Aronofsky's  "Black Swan" , while Cristan Bale, who portrayed a crack-addicted former boxer in  "The Fighter"  grabbed the best male supporting actor prize.

Melisso Leo was also awarded with the best supporting actress prize for her turn in  "The Fighter".

Christopher Nolan’s "Inception" took four awards, all in technical categories.
