Macedonia is very likely to hold early elections after on Monday the opposition expressed readiness to accept the challenge extended to it by Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.

The leader of the Social Democratic Union and former President Branko Crvenkovski has agreed to bring his MPs back to the Parliament if early elections were held – which was the offer made shortly before that to him by the government of VMRO-DPMNE.

However, Crvenkoski set several conditions for that including changes in the election law and unblocking bank accounts of several opposition media, BGNES reported. Crvenkovski said that if these conditions are met, Macedonia may hold early elections in June.

The leadership of the ruling rightist party VMRO-DPMNE is expected to come up with a formal position. PM Grueski has made it clear he thinks early elections could be held as early as the end of April 2011.
