Bulgaria, Romania Want EU Agriculture Grants Alignment 2014

Bulgaria and Romania want the size of the EU grants for agriculture to become equal for all EU member states in 2014.

The EU newcomers demand that the alignment, which is supposed to happen by 2016, according to the current contract, should take place as early as possible. EU grants should be introduced in 2014 and not in 2016. The Agriculture Ministers of Bulgaria, Miroslav Naydenov, and Romania, Valeriu Tabara, met in Brussels on Monday. They have agreed on sharing their demands with the European Commission.

The two Ministers have decided to initiate a meeting between the European Commission Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary, which currently presides over the EU. During the meeting, Bulgaria and Romania's problems with the Special Accession Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (SAPARD).
