An Egyptian man has named his daughter "Facebook" to commemorate the important part the social network played in the recent uprising in the country.

By naming his daughter after the social network, Jamal Ibrahim, who is in his 20s, wanted to express his gratitude to Facebook for organizing the massive rallies on Cairo'd Tahrir Square and other cities, which put an end to the 40-year rule of President Hosni Mubarak, the Daily Mail reported, citing Egyptian daily Al-Ahram.

The girl's full name is Facebook Jamal Ibrahim. Family, friends and neighbors have reportedly gathered around the newborn to express their support for the role Facebook played in the protests.

The social network has also been praised across Cairo. After Mubarak's resignation, graffiti could be seen across the city saying "Thank you Facebook".

However, one Internet blogger expressed concern that the praising of the social network might get out of hand.

"The Internet as a whole should win the Nobel Peace Prize this year for all it's done for democracy in the Middle East/North African region, but let's not let this naming kids get out of hand. I'd hate for little Facebook to have to share a classroom with a little AOL, or worse a little Yahoo," the Daily Mail quoted the blogger.

According to the publication, there are five million Facebook users in Egypt – more than any other country in the Middle East – and the number rocketed over the last month as the revolution got underway.
