Four Russian tourists have been left dead after a terrorist shootout near Elbrus Mountain in the Kabardino-Balkaria autonomous republic in Russia.

In another attack, terrorists blew up a cable car line at the foot of Elbrus. The explosion went off in the small hours Saturday, blowing down some 30 cars from the line.

No one has been reported dead in the cable car attack. Rescuers are investigating the area.

The group of the four killed was travelling with public transportation on a local highway. Their vehicle were stopped and they were asked to come out. When they refused to come out, a shootout ensued, which left four of the Russian tourists dead.

Mount Elbrus (5,642 m asl), the highest in Europe, is part of the Caucasus Mountain Range and is located in the Russian Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachai-Cherkessia republics, right on the Russian border with Georgia.
