Iranian warships have not requested to pass through the Suez Canal on Wednesday, the Egyptian authorities have announced.

"No Iranian warships sailed through the canal in the last two days and nothing is planned for the coming days either," Ahmed El-Manakhly, the transit director of the Suez Canal Authority said on Thursday, as cited by CNN.

On Wednesday, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman stated that two Iranian warships were planning to head towards the Suez Canal, a move he described as a "provocation that proves Iran's nerve and self-esteem is growing from day to day"

Israel was watching closely the two warships and alerted "friendly nations in the region", according to its Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
