Two Iranian warships are planning to sail to Syria on Wednesday through Egypt's Suez canal, according to Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.
At a conference of American Jewish leaders in Jerusalem, he called the move a "provocation that proves Iran's nerve and self-esteem is growing from day to day" and said that Iranian war boats had not sailed through the canal for "many years."
“It is strange for the Iranian Navy to use the Suez Canal since it really doesn’t have anything to look for in the Mediterranean Sea,” an Israeli official has said, as cited by the Jerusalem Post.
Israel is watching closely the two warships and warns it might act. Intelligence officials believe that the Iranian warships might be involved in supplying radical Islamic groups in Yemen with weapons, according to UPI.com.
