Bulgaria's wine exports have increased with 10% year on year in 2010, reaching 57.6 million liters, the country's Agriculture Minister, Miroslav Naydenov, has announced.

Naydenov spoke on the professional holiday of vine-growers and wine-makers, celebrated on Monday. On this day, a special ritual - the first pruning of the vines for the season is done across the country. The celebrations are rooted in the ancient Dionysus festivities, celebrating Dionysus - the God of Wine, who was known to have thought people everywhere he went how to grow vines and make wine.

"Bulgaria's wine export goes mainly for Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Lithuania and Germany," the Bulgarian Minister said. He pointed out that the Bulgarian wine has started regaining its positions in the Middle East.

There is a further potential for Bulgarian wines to succeed on the Brazilian, Japanese and Vietnamese markets, the Minister has added.

During the recent visit of Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov in Japan, the Asian country expressed interest in the imports of Bulgarian wine.
