Gamal Mubarak, the son of Egypt's President, has been sacked by his father from a key post in the country's ruling party.

Other important figures removed from the party's leadership were Mufid Shihab and Zakariya Azmy who have been parts of the political live in Egypt for almost thirty years. Secretary General Safwat el-Shari also resigned his post.

Gamal has been tipped to succeed his father Hosni Mubarak. However, Egypt's president himself has publicly denied such an opportunity.

On Saturday, Mubarak held talks with ministers to discuss ways to revive the country's economy, which is losing at least USD 310 M per day, according to analysts.

The Egyptian protesters still insist that the current President should step out of office immediately.
