Bulgaria's Left, Right Unite in Dissing Interior Minister

Representatives of the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the rightist Blue Coalition once more voiced univocal harsh criticism of Bulgarian Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov.

MPs from both formations - which are traditional arch-rivals in Bulgarian politics - found Tsvetanov's answers at a hearing in front of the parliamentary Internal Affairs Committee to be highly unsatisfactory.

Tsvetanov had to present Bulgaria's progress in the fight against smuggling and to answer questions regarding the widespread and apparently unmotivated use of special surveillance in the country.

"In effect Tsvetanov did not say a single relevant word today," voiced his disappointment socialist MP Kiril Dobrev.

"The minister's explanations were extremely vague," adjoined Blue Coalition MP Yordan Bakalov.

Both leftist and rightist MPs also stated it is apparent that Tsvetanov is not exercising due control over the use of special surveillance devices.

"The impression is being solidified that the basis of use of special surveillance is the personal feud between Tsvetanov and Customs Agency director Vanyo Tanov," shared socialist MP Angel Naydenov.

"There is no way that the minister does not know that the Customs director is being surveilled," underscored the Blues' Bakalov, adding that there are sufficient grounds not to believe what Tsvetanov is saying.

On his part, in front of journalists minister Tsvetanov spoke highly of the state's achievements in the fight against smuggling.
