The Bulgarian Initiative Committee "Unity and Team Work" distributed Tuesday an official announcement of the launch of their presidential election campaign.

"The Initiative Committee with its coordinator Professor Milen Semkov discussed the team which will participate in the elections for President of Bulgaria and approved the following members – Aleksei Petrov, Nikolay Georgiev, and a respected lady whose name will be announced later, over fears of repressions," the announcement reads.

The nominees have expressed gratitude for the trust and the support of the many followers and sympathizers.

Aleksei Petrov stated the top task of the team would be to overcome the socio-economic crisis in Bulgaria and unite its citizens in stopping the "the cold civil war and the exhausting 20-year-long transition period."

Nikolay Georgiev is quoted saying the unification of all Bulgarians was an important element of national security and of full EU and NATO integration.

The Coordinating Committee recommended expanding the membership of the team, but not exceeding seven members.

The final presidential-nominee team will be approved on May 1, 2011.

Shady businessman and former employee of the State Agency for National Security (DANS), Aleksei Petrov, one of the most controversial figures of the last 20 years, is currently under house arrest, after being investigated on a number of organized crime charges since his arrest in February 2010, in a special police operation codenamed "Octopus."
