Bulgaria C-Bank Nudges Up Base Rate to 0.19%

The Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) has decided to increase the base interest rate to 0.19% in February, up from 0.18% in January and December.

This is the highest level since February last year, when the base rate stood at 0.24%, after which it remained nearly unchanged ranging between 0,17% -0.18%.

The interest rate has been decreasing since the beginning of 2009 from levels at 5,17%. The downward movement was reversed in May only for the growth to last one more month.

The sharpest dip in the base interest rate was recorded in February, when it decreased from 5,17% to 3,92%.

The Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) announced the highest base interest rates since 2005 in December 2008, setting it at 5,77%.
