The globally strategic Suez Canal in Egypt seems to be functioning as regular, amidst unrest that has grappled the entire country.

"The Suez Canal is working at full capacity," according to an official representative, cited by Egyptian state media and global agencies.

In the wake of several days of civic protests demanding the ousting of President Hosni Mubarak, which have resulted in the paralization of the country, oil markets have reacted with unease at the prospects of hampered shipments through Suez.

Petrol prices have risen up to USD 100 per barrel Monday.
