Rightist Blue Coalition will vote with abstentions in Thursday's confidence vote, announced co-leaders Martin Dimitrov and Ivan Kostov.

In his statement during the parliamentary debate on the vote Kostov said that there is no way the Blues will vote "against", since the PM Boyko Borisov's cabinet is unquestionably better than the preceding three-way coalition government.

He nevertheless slammed the cabinet's record in fighting the criminal world and in guaratneeing the rule of law in Bulgaria, referring to the recent tapping scandal that was the immediate cause for the tabling of the confidence vote.

Martin Dimitrov joined Kostov in criticising the GERB cabinet's economic policy and its backing of joint energy projects with Russia, which the rightists have consistently stated are harmful to Bulgaria.

Both Kostov and Dimitrov recalled that the Blue Coalition also abstained in the vote for state budget 2011 and vowed to continue that stance until the cabinet improves its work.

They nevertheless stressed that they trust that Borisov's government will be able to do so.

Over the late fall and winter, the Blue Coalition, which started out as greatly supporting of the GERB cabinet, has been voicing ever more harsh criticisms, which up to now have failed to materialize in straight-out opposition.

The actual voting on confidence in the GERB cabinet is scheduled for later Thursday evening.
