Every Other Bulgarian Uses Internet

The percentage of Bulgarian Internet users has increased from 34% to 51% in the course of the last three years, according to the MBMD agency's latest poll.

91% of those who have declared they are Internet users have said they are online on a daily basis, 28% use it to talk with friends and relatives, 25% check their emails, 25% seek different sorts of information, 23% check out news sites and 19% are into social networks.

A mere 1% have claim the use the Internet for work-related activities.

Facebook is the most popular site in Bulgaria, according to the poll, followed by the local "abv.bg" and "google.com"

More than half of the surveyed Bulgarians have claimed they do not read papers. The "Trud" and "24 chasa" daily papers retained their biggest market share, but have dropped from 33% to 21% and from 26% to 16% respectively. The two papers changed their owners at the end of 2010 when the Vienna-registered BG Privatinvest Ltd acquired a majority stake in them.

Two private channels – bTV and Nova TV have the highest viewer numbers, followed by the state- owned Bulgarian National Television.
