Bulgarian FBI Declares Conservatives Signatures List False

The Bulgarian State Agency for National Security (DANS) has conducted a mass probe of the list with signatures submitted with the Parliament by the conservative Order, Law and Justice (RZS) party.

The party of leader, Yane Yanev, submitted in the beginning of December 600 000 signatures of people asking for the dismissal of the Parliament and the convening of a new Great General Assembly to work on a new Constitution.

In a letter to the Parliament's Speaker, Tsetska Tsacheva, the DANS Head, Tsvetlin Yovchev, informs that the Agency has discovered violations, abuse of personal data and that the Chief Prosecutor has been notified.

According to the letter, DANS agents have visited 757 addresses in the cities of Sofia, Burgas, Vratsa, Vidin, Gabrovo and Yambol, to check if the individuals on the list really support the RZS call for national referendum.

Over 400 people have denied that ever signing the list and 290 have submitted a written statement.

The agents further found out the list contained names of deceased people, wrong addresses and a large number of identic handwritings.

DANS are also going to notify the Commission for Protection of Personal Data.

The Agency started the month-long probe after being alerted by an unidentified person.
