Sofia City Hall Hits on Illegal Billboards

The Sofia City Hall, assisted by the municipal police, is launching Monday mass checks of billboards mounted on the capital's streets and supermarkets.

All supermarkets and grocery stores billboards and advertisements will be checked to find out if they are legal. Violators face fines of up to BGN 50 000.

At the same time, a group of inspectors will be checking all stores and other commercial facilities on the Sofia "Dondukov" boulevard over the significant increase of illegal business signs.

Also, starting on Monday, the municipal police will assist ticket inspectors on public transportation vehicles to counter the increased riding of the latter without a ticket or a pass.

Just at the end of 2010, the Interior Ministry and the Sofia City Hall signed a contract for the establishment of the municipal police. 110 policemen are taking part in the pilot project while the City Hall is slating BGN 2.5 M from its 2011 budget for the municipal police.
