The newly established municipal police in the Bulgarian capital Sofia has already started their first actions, checking for parking violations and illegal commercial activity.

The municipal police is assisting the Urban Mobility Center in checking for incorrectly parked vehicles and whether street sellers possess the necessary license.

In the last working day of 2010, a contract was signed between the Ministry of Interior Affairs and the Sofia Municipality, establishing the new police unit. The launch of the municipal police has been planned since five years ago, but financial issues have delayed it.

The municipal policemen wear the same uniforms as their state colleagues, but have a distinct Sofia municipality badge on their right hands.

The start of the project costs the Sofia Minicipalitty BGN 2.5 M. The new unit will not mark the end of the municipal Egida Security Company.
