12 Men Perish in Russian Plane Crash

A Russian military plane An-22 crashed late Tuesday night causing the death of the entire crew of 12 men.

The incident occurred at 21:30 pm on Tuesday, confirmed a spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Defense, cited by Interfax.

The plane crashed on the border between the districts of Tula and Orlovsk.

The cause of the crash is unknown but it is likely to be a problem with the engine.

Russian military transport plane An-22 usually has a crew of 5-6 people; it can carry up to 290 soldiers, 150 paratroopers, or four armored vehicles. Russian media reported that there were two 6-member crews on board of the plane when it crashed.

Earlier in December a Tu-154 airplane crashed close to Moscow.
