The Bulgarian government has provided additional funding of BGN 10 M to the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) for 2010.

The subsidy will be used to repay the debts of BNT to the Bulgarian Telecommunications giant BTK for the distribution of the television program.

“The subsidy would allow the overcoming of severe financial difficulties for BNT, which occurred during this fiscal year,” the press center of the government has stated.

With the additional money for the television, the total state funding for 2010 to BNT becomes over BNG 70 M.

Three months ago, an audit made by the BNT management showed that the media would have a deficit of BGN 20 M by the end of the year. Also, BGN 9,5 M, which were envisioned for purchasing of equipment, have not been absorbed.

On Tuesday, the government provided another BGN 10 M to state administration, which will be spent for preliminary paying to Microsoft for delivering software products and will be used for repaying debts from previous years.

In the period 2002-2010, the Bulgarian state administration has signed several contracts, licensing the use of the company’s software products. The contracts have ensured the administration with unlimited right to use the products.

Since payments have to be done in 2011 to Microsoft, the state administration could pay them preliminary with the subsidy for 2010 and use discount.

According to the government, the preliminary payments would “significantly relieve the state budget for 2011.”
