A railway car derail in the Sofia Metro blockading the subway traffic Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred shortly after 3 pm between the Obelya and Slivnitsa metro stations at the western end of the only operational railway line in Sofia.

No people have been injured as a result; the passengers were evacuated, and the Sofia Metropolitan company took measures to replace the car and to restore the traffic.

"The train has been taken to the depot and is being repaired. There was a technical problem. It takes a while to get out a new train, which has delayed the timetable but we are catching up," the Director of the Sofia Metropolitan firm, Stoyan Bratoev explained.

The Sofia Metro recently acquired three brand-new trains. They are to replace the oldest trains running in the subway at present, which were produced in 1990 in the former Soviet Union.
