CNN has announced that the information circulating on Twitter, alleging the news netork of reporting the death of US actor Morgan Freeman, is a hoax.

On Thursday, someone posted a fraudulent tweet, purportedly posted by CNN, saying that the actor had died in his home in Burbank, Calif.

The tweet had spread like wildfire on Twitter and in a matter of minutes, hundreds of people thought that Freeman was dead.

However, on Monday, the news network made a statement as a response to the rumors.

"CNN did not report Morgan Freeman death. Rumor is false. CNN will aggressively investigate this hoax," the statement said.

Meanwhile, the actor's publicist Stan Rosenfield told CNN that Freeman "is very much alive."

The popular US actor came to Bulgaria twice – in 2005, for the shooting of his movie "The Contract", and in 2007, for the shooting of "The Code" with Spanish actor Antonio Banderas.

Bulgaria's many beautiful women and the good food were the things that impressed Freeman the most.
