Bulgaria's Interior Minister Named 'Politician of 2010'

Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov has been declared Bulgaria's "Politician of the Year" 2010 in a traditional media poll.

The poll is held by Darik Radio and its website dariknews.bg whose listeners and readers selected also Bulgaria's "Event of the Year".

Tsvetanov was ranked first with a total of 39.8% of the votes. Bulgaria's EU Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva came in a close second with 37.9%, while Regional Development Minister Rosen Plevneliev is third with 12.2%.

Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov and Finance Minister Simeon Djankov are fourth and fifth with 6.2% and 3.9% respectively.

The Darik readers and listeners have selected the "crisis in the healthcare sector" as Bulgaria's Event of 2010 with 29.7% of the votes. The "Interior Ministry against the Octopus and the other special operations" throughout the year were ranked second with 29.2%.

The "Construction of Highways" is third with 23.7%; the election of the Bulgarian EU Commissioner is fourth with 10.1%, and the founding of the ABV movement, a political project of Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov, is last with 7.3%.

According to the rules of the poll, people who have already been selected politicians of the year three times cannot participate any more. These are Georgi Parvanov, Boyko Borisov, and former PM Ivan Kostov.
