The Center for Urban Mobility of the Bulgarian capital Sofia is launching a new public bus line to connect the Sofia International Airport with the operational metro line.

At present there are only two public transport lines running to the Sofia International Airport – bus No. 84, which runs from the downtown to Terminal 1, and bus No. 284, which runs from the downtown to Terminal 2.

The first and only operational line so far of the Sofia Metro is supposed to run to the Sofia Airport; at present, however, it only runs from the Obelya and Lyulin residential quarters through the downtown to the Mladost 1 Quarter, about 7 km from the airport.

The municipality is currently building an extension of the first metro line from Mladost 1 to the Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd, which will bring the metro even closer to the airport. However, the final extension to the airport will not be completed until after 2012.

The new bus line No. 384 will run from the Mladost 1 metro station to Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of the Sofia Airport. It will be in operation as of Monday, December 20, 2010, and will first run for a three-month trial period.
