Top Bulgarian Team CSKA Might Be Banned from Playing Due to Debt

CSKA Sofia, one of the two top Bulgarian football teams is facing being banned from the national championship should it fail to pay its debts in two months.

The Bulgarian Football Union decided Thurday that CSKA has until February 14 to pay all its dues to other teams or face to be banned from playing in the championship for the spring half-season.

Financially troubled CSKA is rumored to be heavily in debt to other teams such as Minyor, Pirin and Sliven, who have been filing claims for transfer money due to them with the Union.

CSKA president Dimitar Borisov expressed strong dissatisfaction at the decision and said that the Union cannot know to what extent his team is in debt.

CSKA Sofia has the most national championship titles and the best performance among Bulgarian teams in European tournaments, and together with arch-rivals Levski Sofia, is one of the top two clubs in Bulgarian football history.
