Petar Stoyanov, aka the Chieftain, who is investigated on several counts in Bulgaria including murder, was acquitted by Sofia District Court Thursday on counts of illegal arms possession and hiding stolen property.

The court determined that Petar Stoyanov, who is the president of the Bulgarian Sumo Federation, did not know the car he was driving was stolen and that he could not be charged with conceiling it.

The weapon allegedly found in the vehicle was determined to have been planted by the police and not owned by the Chieftain.

Meanwhile the head of the detention facility in Shumen, where Stoyanov is presently being held to face his graver charges, has also been detained on suspicions of having ties with the Chieftain.

Petar Stoyanov was first arrested in July during "Killers," one of the many high-profile operations staged by the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior, with other people on suspicions of masterminding the murder of controvesial businessman Yuri Galev.

He has also been charged with organizing the murders of other businessmen in Shumen and Veliko Tarnovo.
