Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov will take part in a public discussion focusing on the "Election Code" changes, organized by his own civic movement.

The Alternative for Bulgarian Renaissance (ABV – abbreviation standing for the first three letters of the Bulgarian alphabet), founded by Parvanov in November 2010, will discuss the proposed amendments in the Election Code with participants from the local and legislative power, different political parties and NGO experts in Sofia's National Palace of Culture on Wednesday.

The event is entitled "Bulgaria's Election Code: Will There Be a Real Change or the Status Quo Will Be Kept."

The Bulgarian President has already criticized the amendments to the Election Code, which has been prepared by the ruling centrist GERB party and their far-rightist allies from Ataka (Attack), stating that the proposed changes aim at facilitating their easy and unproblematic reelection. He says he is also concerned with whether the new amendments will deal will the notorious issue of vote buying.

Parvanov has claimed on previous occasions that his ABV formation will not be a political party and will non have its own candidates for municipal councillors, but might back candidates for mayors for the upcoming local elections in the fall of 2011.
