Forty percent of Bulgarians are against closing the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, according to a poll conducted by the research agency Sova Harris.

The poll was done among 1 000 people over the age of 18, between December 2 and 9.

42 of every 100 respondents have said interests towards lucrative BAS properties were behind the attacks against BAS while another 45% noted they did not have an opinion.

When asked if BAS must remain as a national center or its institutes should be scattered among ministries and universities, only 4.4% voiced support for the decentralizations, showing Bulgarians largely see the Academy as an organization based on autonomity.
