Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov has met in Brussels with Bulgarians working as part of the staff of the European External Action Service.

"Bulgaria wants a strong and efficient European diplomatic service," Mladenov declared before the Bulgarian experts working at departments of EU institutions that have been made part of the newly created European External Action Service (EEAS), the diplomatic corps of the EU, which formally became operational on December 1, 2010, and which was envisaged in the Lisbon Reform Treaty of the Union.

Filip Dimitrov, Bulgarian PM in 1992-1994, has been appointed as the EU Ambassador to Georgia as one of only four Eastern Europeans to become ambassadors as part of the EEAS.

A major topic of Mladenov's talks with the Bulgarians at the EEAS were the mechanisms for cooperation and coordination between the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry and the EU diplomatic service, announced the ministry press office.

"Bulgaria is committed to participating in the training of good experts that can make a contribution to a strong and efficient EEAS," Mladenov stated.

The Bulgarians working for the EEAS have proposed to Mladenov a mechanism regulating career development in the Bulgarian state administration and the EU institutions.
