A delegation of the Bulgarian Atlantic Council has commenced its official visit in the Republic of Korea at the invitation of the Korean government and the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Last week, South Korean Ambassador to Bulgaria Chun Bi-ho formally announced the visit of the Bulgarian Atlantic Club delegation to Korea as part of the celebrating of the 20th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea in 1990.

The delegation consisting of the President of the Atlantic Club Bulgaria, Solomon Passy, and businessman Maxim Behar, CEO of M3 Communications Group, Inc., who is an Atlantic Club board member.

The visit of the Bulgarian Atlantic Club delegation to South Korea is seen by the Korean side as part of Bulgaria's wider efforts in the past few years, including during Solomon Passy's term as Foreign Minister of Bulgaria in 2001-2005, and as Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy in 2005-2009, to commit the EU to contributing to resolving the crisis on the Korean Peninsula in order to eventually achieve the unification of South and North Korea.

In addition to the political aspects of the situation on the Korean Peninsula, the visit that Passy and Behar are paying to the Republic of Korea as representatives of the Bulgarian Atlantic Club is also aimed at boosting the prospects for trade and investment between South Korea and Bulgaria, viewing the latter as Korea's "door" to the EU.

The Bulgarian delegation will pay visits to the industrial facilities of Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, and will be meeting with the President of Samsung, as well as with representatives of Hanjin Shipping, the Bulgarian-Korean Trade Association, the governments of Busan and the Jeju Island in South Korea.

"There is a huge investment interest towards Bulgaria on part of the Korean business; we are certain that our meetings will help those interested to find their specific partners," stated President of the Bulgarian Atlantic Club, Dr. Solomon Passy, upon arriving in Seoul.
