Demolition of Illegal Constructions Continues in Sofia Region

The Bulgarian Directorate for National Construction Supervision (DNSK) has announced it is starting to remove the illegal constructions near the Iskar Reservoir.

The removing comes four years after the illegal construction near the Iskar Reservoir has been established.

26 orders for demolishing one-floor houses, cottages and fences have been issued and they have to be completed by January 13, 2011.

“In the meantime, two owners have removed their own villas in the region of the reservoir. Another owner has started removing a stable,” said Milka Gecheva, Director of DNSK.

All illegal constructions are located in the Sofia suburban district of Pancharevo. They have been established in 2006, during a DNSK check. Their demolition orders were issued a year later and they entered into force between 2008 and 2010.

Besides the 26 constructions, there are 12 more, but their removal has been postponed due to change of ownership of the properties. Among them are three massive buildings and illegally constructed retaining walls.

The DNSK operations on removing illegal constructions began on November 1 in the fishing village near the mouth of the Ropotamo River. Then, several buildings were demolished in another village near the city of Burgas.

Many protests and police interactions were involved in the process of removing illegal constructions in the Black Sea town of Nesebar.
