Serbian foreign affairs minister Vuk Jeremic, who is on an official visit to Sofia, has stated information published in the press that his sacking is imminent are false.

Saturday Serbian news agency Blic wrote that Jeremic is to be removed from his position by PM Boris Tadic after intra-party elections following Saturday.

Citing "sources close to the cabinet," Blic wrote that one of the reasons behind that move is Jeremic's allegedly self-willed decision to back the China boycott of 2010's Nobel Peace Prize award. That action had not been consulted with the cabinet and ran counter to its intentions.

Speaking in Sofia, Jeremic reiterated Serbia's strong commitment to the furtherance of human rights.

Bulgarian and Greek Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Nikolay Mladenov and Dimitris Droutsas, backed Jeremic, stating that there is no need to overemphasize the event.

Mladenov and Droutsas expressed strong support for Serbia's EU bid and hoped that the country would become a member in the very near future.
