Еconomy experts gathered to discuss adjusting crisis exit strategies for new EU member states in Brussels Thursday.

The initiative originated from Bulgarian EPP MEP and Vice-Chairwoman of the CRIS Committee of the European Parliament Iliana Ivanova

Bulgaria's Financial Minister Simeon Djankov, the former Estonian Prime Minister Mart Laar, Polish Under Secretary of State Marcin Korolec and Iliana Ivanova shared their views on the new member states which have still not in the Eurozone on a workshop titled "The Impact of the Crisis on the New Member States".

"Countries from Central and Eastern Europe are among those most disciplined as far as budget, financial and economical rules are concerned," Iliana Ivanova stated. "Therefore I reckon it would be fair for us to recognize the "catching up" effect, which these countries need, in order for an actual European solidarity to be achieved"

"When the crisis began, everybody expected that Eastern Europe would be most severely effected. But while a lot of work has to be done in Hungary, Lithuania and Romania, the same can be said about Greece, Ireland, Portugal and Spain," Bulgaria's Financial Minister Djankov said. "The investors do no longer distinguish between Eastern and Western Europe, which is good news for Bulgaria.
