Bulgaria's Holy Synod removed from his post the notorious Bishop Theodosius, Abbot of the Troyan Monastery.

Back in 2008, Bishop Theodosius chased away a group of disabled believers from the Troyan Monastery, calling them "sinners" and "cursed".

He then became the first Bulgarian cleric to be sentenced for discrimination and had to pay a fine of BGN 250, as decided by the Bulgarian Commission for Protection against Discrimination.

The Abbot is to leave the monastery immediately after January 1st, and the Synod is looking for a replacement.

The spokesperson of the Synod, Metropolitan Neophyte from the Danube city of Ruse, says the decision was made over numerous alerts for violations at the monastery.

"The Holy Synod listened carefully and in detail to what Bishop Theodosius had to say, but due to a large number of complaints, and him being the reason for quite a few troubles for us, we asked him to resign. He already sent his resignation in," Neophyte informed, adding Theodosius would remain Bishop, but will be relocated "elsewhere."
