The Bulgarian parliament has adopted at second reading amendments to the Family Code, which would impede the adoption procedure in the country.

According to the new regulations, parents will be able to withdraw their given agreement for the adoption of their child until there is a submitted request for adoption.

The Chair of the Education Committee, Ognyan Stoichkov, the amendments would impede the adoption procedure because they are a "bureaucratic arbitrariness to the orphans."

Stoichkov noted that many children will be forced to stay in orphanages without having the right to be adopted.
