A project for a bilateral collaboration agreement between Bulgaria and Serbia within the EU Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance has been signed by Bulgaria's council of Ministers Wednesday.

The agreement will be a part of the Instrument's Program for Trans-Border Collaboration.

Bulgaria's Infrastructure Minister will be responsible for carrying out the negotiations with Serbia and signing the agreement on behalf of the Bulgarian government.

The agreement between the two Balkan countries is expected to increase the territorial collaboration within their common trans-border region, as well as the competitive power of the region and its stable development spheres of economy and environment.

Bulgaria entered EU in 2007, while, according to the union's last progress report, Serbia has been found to be in a good position to bid for EU membership but is urged for further judicial and administration reforms, and efforts against organized crime and corruption. The question with the potential recognition of Kosovo also remains unclear.
