Two foreign college students have been severely beaten early Wednesday morning in the "Sudentski Grad" (College Town) district of Bulgaria's capital Sofia.

The young people are both 23 – a Macedonian girl and a Turkish citizen. They have been listed at the Sofia "St. Anna" hospital with numerous fractures, but doctors say their lives are not in danger.

The police are still looking for the perpetrators.

The thrashing happened on the day when Bulgarian colleges and universities celebrate the traditional College Day. The Interior Ministry issued a warning to students to be cautious when partying and driving over the increased number of incidents year after year on December 8.

The latest beating in Studentski Grad came on the heels of another one, just two weeks ago, when a 19-year-old college student suffered skull fracture, but doctors from the Sofia emergency hospital "Pirogov' were able to save his life.

On December 5, 2008, in another College Day eve, 20-year-old pharmacy student, Stoyan Baltov, was beaten to death in front of the night club "Amnesia „in Studentski Grad. He died from fatal head injuries.
